Staci Mize is a creator, director, and actor in Los Angeles, California. Staci is currently working toward an MFA in Directing from the University of California Los Angeles. She received her BA in Theatre from the University of Colorado in 2018, graduating Summa Cum Laude with highest distinction.
Staci has significant interest in creating devised theatrical works and ushering in a new era of original, inclusive works. She has heavily utilized her widely varied background to create new works and continues to experiment in order to find innovative solutions to theatre in a modern age. She has taken a particular interest in all things bodily and has found immense passion in working with people of all physical types and abilities. Staci has studied and practiced both highly physical and highly tehcnological theatre technqiues and continues to explore these in relation to her work.
In line with that, Staci completed a Production Management internship with the Public Theatre in New York City for the Under the Radar Festival. During this time, she worked closely with many productions, including After (Andrew Schneider), Margarete (Janek Turkowski), Re-Member Me (Dickie Beau), The Gates (Adam Gopnik), How to be a Rock Critic (Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen), Antiginon (Teatro El Publico – Cuba), We’re Only Alive for a Short Amount of Time (David Cale), Parable of the Sower (Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon), and Choir Choir Choir (Choir Choir Choir with David Byrne).
Staci was honored to receive the Emerging Director Award and the Gilbert Cates Fellowship. Additionally, she has previously consulted on the musical theatre text How to Succeed in Musical Theatre Without Really Trying by Professor Chris Will.
